It sounds to me...Finally got back to reading this!<br /><br />It sounds to me like the "Perils of Pauline" and other such early film serials were the originators of the term, though since they originated in the 1910s, it's surprising that the term didn't appear in print sooner than the 1930s. There seems to have been a revival of interest in/nostalgia for them then, including a "Pauline" remake, so perhaps the term was coined in looking back at what distinguished the serial genre...?<br /><br />We think of the villain tying the heroine to the train tracks, but it would be interesting to learn if there were literal cliff-hangers as well.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03480842577353503763noreply@blogger.com
