Reading Roundup Wrapup: September 2023

Pick of the month: What Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher. Other than Nettle and Bone (also by T. Kingfisher), this was my favorite book I read for the Hugo Awards this year. A neat, funny, interesting novella about gender roles and fungus... what more can you want?

All books read:

  1. Cyberpunk 2077: Big City Dreams by Bartosz Sztybor, Alessio Fioriniello, and Filipe Andrade
  2. Saga, Volume Ten by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples
  3. Sword & Citadel: the second half of The Book of the New Sun: The Sword of the Lictor and The Citadel of the Autarch by Gene Wolfe
  4. Osmo Unknown and the Eightpenny Woods by Catherynne M. Valente
  5. Dune: The Official Movie Graphic Novel by Lilah Sturges and Drew Johnson
  6. Monstress, Volume Seven: Devourer by Marjorie Liu and Sana Takeda
  7. The Daughter of Doctor Moreau by Silvia Moreno-Garcia
  8. What Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher
  9. Justice Society of America: A Celebration of 75 Years edited by Rachel Pinnelas
  10. Buffalito World Outreach Project: 30 Translations of “Buffalo Dogs” by Lawrence M. Schoen
  11. The Privilege of the Happy Ending: small/medium/large stories by Kij Johnson

A solid, if not very high month. I did read a lot, but much of it was short fiction for the Hugos (four short stories and four novelettes) that don't appear in my reading stats because they aren't books.

All books acquired:

  1. The Best Science Fiction of the Year, Volume 7 edited by Neil Clarke
  2. Cybermen: The Ultimate Comic Strip Collection: Collected comic strips from the pages of Doctor Who Magazine by Alan Barnes, Andrew Cartmel, Mike Collins, Steve Dillon, Martin Geraghty, Scott Gray, David Lloyd, Alan McKenzie, Mike McMahon, Steve Moore, Grant Morrison, Paul Neary, Steve Parkhouse, John Ridgway, Adrian Salmon, et al
  3. The Wanderer by Fritz Leiber

Currently reading:

  • Galaxy Awards 1: Chinese Science Fiction Anthology edited by Latssep and Francesco Verso
  • Legion of Super-Heroes: Before the Darkness, Volume Two by Gerry Conway, Roy Thomas, Paul Levitz, Steve Ditko, Frank Chiaramonte, Bruce Patterson, Carmine Infantino, et al.
  • The Best Science Fiction of the Year, Volume 7 edited by Neil Clarke
  • Cybermen: The Ultimate Comic Strip Collection: Collected comic strips from the pages of Doctor Who Magazine by Alan Barnes, Andrew Cartmel, Mike Collins, Steve Dillon, Martin Geraghty, Scott Gray, David Lloyd, Alan McKenzie, Mike McMahon, Steve Moore, Grant Morrison, Paul Neary, Steve Parkhouse, John Ridgway, Adrian Salmon, et al.
  • The Wanderer by Fritz Leiber

Up next in my rotations:
