Reading Roundup Wrapup: December 2023

Pick of the month: Mistress Masham's Repose by T. H. White. Very delightful, very funny sort-of-sequel to Gulliver's Travels, from the perspective of a young girl with an evil governess. Pulled it off my wife's shelves and it gave me a couple charming days that I had not expected at all. The Adventures with the Wife in Space book was a very close second.

All books read:

  1. Doctor Who Magazine: Special Edition #60: Action Figures: The Essential Guide, 1963-1996 by Alan Barnes, Marcus Hearn, and Jim Sangster
  2. Roderick Random by Tobias Smollett
  3. Doctor Who: Short Trips #19: Dalek Empire edited by Nicholas Briggs with Simon Guerrier
  4. Liberation of the Daleks: Collected Comic Strips from the Pages of Doctor Who Magazine by Alan Barnes and Lee Sullivan
  5. Otherworld Barbara Vol. 2 by Moto Hagio
  6. The Scalawagons of Oz by John R. Neill
  7. Cetaganda: A Vorkosigan Adventure by Lois McMaster Bujold
  8. Doctor Who: Ten Days of Christmas by Steve Cole
  9. Mistress Masham’s Repose by T. H. White
  10. Adventures With the Wife in Space: Living with Doctor Who by Neil Perryman with Sue Perryman
  11. The Miserable Git: The Wife in Space, Volume 1 by Neil and Sue Perryman
  12. The Scruffy Drunk: The Wife in Space, Volume 2 by Neil and Sue Perryman
  13. The Pompous Tory: The Wife in Space, Volume 3 by Neil and Sue Perryman
  14. The Mad One: The Wife in Space, Volume 4 by Neil and Sue Perryman
  15. The (Still) Mad One: The Wife in Space, Volume 5 by Neil and Sue Perryman

Strong month! As you can see, I got into a bit of a run at its end.

All books acquired:

  1. Cetaganda: A Vorkosigan Adventure by Lois McMaster Bujold
  2. Doctor Who: Ten Days of Christmas by Steve Cole
  3. Antkind by Charlie Kaufman
  4. The Kingdoms by Natasha Pulley
  5. Collected Poems by Ursula K. Le Guin
  6. The Enchanted Island of Oz by Ruth Plumly Thompson, illustrated by Dick Martin
  7. The Ozmapolitan of Oz by Dick Martin
  8. Bestial: A Werewolf Novel by William D. Carl
  9. The Wizards on Walnut Street by Sam Swicegood
  10. The Life and Adventures of Martin Chuzzlewit by Charles Dickens

#3-9 were Christmas presents. Adding Martin Chuzzlewit to my LibraryThing brought my collection of physical books up to 3,000! But I've been meaning to do a purge, so hopefully that will go down a bit soon.

Currently reading:

  • Mighty Marvel Masterworks Presents The Black Panther, Volume 1: Collecting The Fantastic Four Nos. 52-54, 56, Tales of Suspense Nos. 97-99, Captain America No. 100, The Avengers Nos. 52, 62, 73-74 & Daredevil No. 52 by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Roy Thomas, John Buscema, et al.
  • The Best Science Fiction of the Year, Volume 7 edited by Neil Clarke
  • The Fit One: The Wife in Space, Volume 6 by Neil and Sue Perryman
  • The Life and Adventures of Martin Chuzzlewit by Charles Dickens

Up next in my rotations:

  1. The Court Jester: The Wife in Space, Volume 7 by Neil and Sue Perryman
  2. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: The Long Mirage by David R. George III
  3. The Pelican History of England: 3. English Society in the Early Middle Ages (1066-1307) by Doris Mary Stenton
  4. The Periodic Table by Primo Levi

Books remaining on "To be read" list: 664 (down 2)

I doubt I have ever registered a decrease in December before.
